Art, Imagination & Many Black LEGO Pieces at Guild Park's Clark Centre

This weekend is your last opportunity to see LEGO® and creativity come togther at Guild Park's Clark Centre.

On Saturday (Dec. 14) starting at noon, you can hear how the renowned Scarborough artist, Ekow Nimako, applies his imagination to thousands of small pieces of black plastic and gives form to characters, myths and futuristic settings and stories.

Ekow Nimako and one of his LEGO art creations. Ekow is speaking at Guild Park's Clark Centre Sat. Dec. 14 from noon to 1:00 pm.

Ekow is an internationally-known Ghanaian-Canadian artist who's giving this year's final Maven Talk at the Clark Centre.

He'll discuss his work and the inspiration he draws on. His two works now displayed at the Clark Centre are a pair of sailing ship models, WAWA ABA (2022) and DAME DAME (2023). The final day to see these works at the Clark Centre - above the front entrance - is Sunday December 15.

Both creations are part of his serieis, Building Black Civilizations: Journey of 2000 Ships. For those artworks, Ekow Nimako Studios uses more than 500,000 black LEGO® elements to reimagine the mysterious sea voyage of Mansa Abu Bakr II, the visionary 9th ruler of the medieval empire of Mali.

For a preview of Ekow's work and inspiration, check out this 3:30 minute video produced earlier this year for the the Clark Centre https://youtu.be/12ZnWw875TE?si=5m8QpRDygdHDBnWF
