Guild Park’s growing profile as a unique cultural landscape received further recognition this spring from Heritage Toronto.

The agency’s annual report highlights the unveiling of Guild Park’s Greek Theatre plaque, a project made possible by Friends of Guild Park’s partnership with Heritage Toronto.

The initiative was one of 34 new historic plaques installed across the city in 2025. The plaque at Guild Park debuted last year as part of the Guildwood Day festivities organized by the Guildwood Village Community Association.

The plaque commemorates the story of how architectural fragments salvaged from downtown’s now demolished Bank of Toronto were transformed into a park landmark – a thrilling setting for the live summer performances by the award-winning Guild Festival Theatre.

Funding for the custom-made marker was by charitable donations from more than two dozen Guild Park supporters. Friends of Guild Park played a central role in raising the funds to research, design, produce, and install the plaque. It now serves as a permanent interpretive feature – helping visitors appreciate the deeper story behind the Greek Theatre.

It’s a reminder to look closely when you visit – because every feature at Guild Park has a story worth discovering.
