National Vimy Ridge Day is an opportunity to join Guild Park supporters, history enthusiasts, and those curious about Canada’s military legacy, to a special live online presentation exploring Guild Park’s little-known links to one of our country’s defining moments, the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
On Thursday, April 9 at 7:30 PM, Friends of Guild Park invites you to a free interactive talk about this pivotal event in the First World War without venturing out to the park on an early spring evening. This one-hour session can be experienced from anywhere—on your computer, tablet, or phone. It’s an easy and engaging way to connect with Canada’s history from the comfort of home.
At Guild Park, the story of Vimy Ridge is not distant—it is rooted in the landscape itself. During this presentation, you’ll discover how those connections unfold in surprising ways: from living memorial oaks grown from acorns gathered on the Vimy battlefield by a Scarborough soldier, to the artistic legacy of the Vimy Memorial’s designer.
You’ll also hear the remarkable story behind Guild Park’s iconic War Horse sculpture, linked to a real Toronto Police horse that served—and survived—the Battle of Vimy Ridge more than a century ago.
This presentation is designed to be as engaging as Friends of Guild Park’s popular on-site tours, while delivering these stories and images online. Bringing together history, art, and place in this way gives anyone with a computer or smartphone the opportunity to experience Guild Park from anywhere.
Whether you are a regular visitor, a history enthusiast, or simply curious to learn more about this unique site, join us online on Thursday, April 9 at 7:30 PM (National Vimy Ridge Day). This event is free, but advance registration is required to receive the access link.
